| Puckounds Finish Season Strong with Bronze in League Playoffs |
|
|
The Rotary Puckhounds played some of their best hockey this weekend during their league playoffs, upsetting the WF Pee-Wee 'A' team to claim Bronze and nearly upsetting the WF Pee-Wee Major 'AA' team in the process. The only two teams to fair better than the 'Hounds were the West Ferris Major 'AA' and Minor 'AA' teams. Not bad for a 'C' team. Way to go Puckhounds !!

Temiskaming Shores (Special) - The Rotary Puckhounds Pee-Wee 'C' team continued their winning ways this past weekend of March 26-28th winning the bronze medal during the NDHL (Nipissing District Hockey League) Pee-Wee Rep Division playoffs held at both the Englehart and Temagami arenas. The 'Hounds finished 3rd in the round-robin, landing a birth to 'Super Sunday' where the top 4 teams would play for Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Game results were as follows:
- Rotary Puckhounds 3, West Ferris 'A' Blades 3 - Rotary Puckhounds 6, Powassan Hawks 0 - Rotary Puckhounds 3, West Ferris Major 'AA' Blades 4 - Rotary Puckhounds 1, West Ferris Major 'AA' Blades 4 (Semi-final) - Rotary Puckhounds 4, West Ferris 'A' Blades 2 (Bronze medal game)
The coaching staff were extremely proud of their players, having been surpassed by only 'AA' caliber hockey teams during the playoffs. The 'Hounds have now ended what has been a very successful 2009-2010 season, as determined by the following accomplishments:
* Silver medalists at the Gaston Gingras tournament in Temiscaming Québec in November * Silver medalists at the Pit Laflamme tournament in Rouyn-Noranda Québec in December * Gold medalists (champions) at the Promutual tournament in Ville-Marie, Québec in January * Gold medalists (champions) at the Wilson Challenge Cup tournament in Temiskaming Shores in February * Gold medalists (champions) at the NOHA Tournament of Champions in Temiskaming Shores in March * Bronze medalists at the NDHL playoffs in Englehart and Temagami, in March.

Temiskaming Shores (Special) - The Rotary Puckhounds continued their winning ways this past weekend of March 5-7th winning 3 of 4 games to claim the gold medal at the Pee-Wee 'C' NOHA Tournanment of Champions held at the Haileybury arena in Temiskaming Shores. The 'Hounds added to their collection of hardware having now won 3 consecutive championships in 6 tournaments played this year, and having been silver medal finalists in two others.
Rotary Puckhounds 0, Timmins BMT Ice Dogs 4 The 'Hounds took the first game too lightly in the beginning and were stunned by an aggressive and fast skating team in the Ice Dogs. The Dogs scored three in the first and their fourth in the first minute of the 2nd. The 'Hounds quickly readjusted their play and held the dogs for the remainder of the game, but unfortunately without generating many offensive chances, nor capitalising on any of them. Rotary Puckhounds 7, Wawa Travellers 0 Still licking their wounds from their previous loss, and needing a win to stay in the hunt for the championship, the 'Hounds came out merciless against the Travellers with a constant attack that resulted in spreading 7 goals evenly throughout the game. Filling the score sheet for the 'Hounds were Kevin Peddie (3G), Tynan Sears (2G, 1A), Jordie Godmaire-Ton (1G, 2A), Michael Pascoli (1G, 1A), Shawn Jibb (2A), and Daniel Charette (2A). The shutout went to Justin Huppé. Rotary Puckhounds 6, Iroguois Falls Coyotes 1 Requiring a tie or a win to land a birth in the final, the 'Hounds left no doubt of their intentions. But it would take a first goal by the Coyotes to spark another scoring frenzy by the 'Hounds. Filling the score sheet for the 'Hounds were Kevin Peddie (1G, 3A), Shawn Jibb (1G, 3A), Richard Boily (2G), Daniel Charette (2G), and Chris Maxwell (1A).
The stage was now set for what would literally be a dog fight as the 'Hounds faced off against the Dogs in the championship game on Sunday March 7th.
Rotary Puckhounds 4, Timmins BMT Ice Dogs 3 (Championship Game) The 'Hounds decidedly continued with their proven recipe for success which consisted in a high intensity fast paced physical attack. But it would be the Dogs who would find the back of the net first at the 9:14 mark of the 1st period. Jostling continued until the 'Hounds finally replied with a goal of their own at the 3:52 mark of the same period. The 'Hounds would jump out in front early in the second period with a goal at the 12:49 mark, taking the lead 2-1. But the Dogs would have none of that and replied a mere 45 seconds later at the 12:04 mark. Not to be outdone, the 'Hounds answered with a goal 45 seconds later as well, taking the lead once again and setting that score 3-2 at the 11:19 mark and keeping it as such going into the break after the second period.
The rest time proved to be energising for the 'Hounds as they came out fast with a quick goal 33 seconds in, giving the 'Hounds a 4-2 advantage at the 13:27 mark. This would prove to be the end of the scoring for the 'Hounds as the rest of the period was intense but fruitless. With time running out, the Dogs had to get to work and rallied back to within 1 goal having pulled their goalie for the extra skater. Soon after they managed to send the 'Hounds to the box to line up 6 skaters against only 4 of the 'Hounds deep in their defensive zone. In true Puckhound fashion the 'Hounds battled tooth and nail get the puck out of their zone and deep in Dog territory sufficiently long to claim victory.
Filling the score sheet for the 'Hounds was Richard Boily (1G), Jacob Doupe (1G), Devin Leveillé (1G), Jordie Godmaire-Ton (1G), Michael Pascoli (1A), Jacob Murphy (1A), and Tynan Sears (1A).
The 'Hounds now look to complete their season by playing a final tournament for their NDHL playdowns which will be held in Englehart & Cobalt March 26-28th.
